Open Congratulations to Shreya Chopra and Drishti Aggarwal of team G.LED for being awarded the first prize of $10,000 in the 2023 GIX Innovation Competition! Their team has created an LED light bulb with user-replaceable components, reducing the need to fully replace a non-functioning bulb when the plastic housing and socket is still fully usable. Congratulations to Joelle Tudor, Liam Sullivan, Michael Malone, and Manny Pacheco of team Cath Connect for being awarded the second prize of $5,000. CathConnect has created a simple breakaway mechanism that reduces the chance of injury during a traumatic catheter removal. Congratulations to Jerred Mace, Andrew Buckingham, and Antyush Bollini of team OneCourt for being awarded the third prize of $3,000. Team OneCourt is improving live sports for blind and visually impaired people by combining existing ball tracking technology with haptic feedback in real-time. Further congratulations to our Honorable Mentions, teams QResponse and Boomerang, who will each receive $1,000. Sophia Musa and Colette Muiruri of QResponse created an automatic user and dispatch app that assists in prioritizing emergency calls in Kenya, and Yiyun Qiu, Yusam Hsu, Shiheng Ge and Bowen Zhao of Boomerang, who created a portable AI-assisted resistance training system for aging individuals with real-time data tracking and resistance feedback for personalized fitness plans. Teams G.LED, CathConnect, and OneCourt will also be receiving RayBan Stories, Oculus hardware, and Portal hardware, courtesy of Meta. We received an incredibly diverse and impressive set of submissions from around the world, all committed to innovating in the space of technology to improve health, wellness, and the environment. The teams will be competing for a combined $20,000 in cash and prizes from our generous partners at Mitsubishi Corporation (Americas), Amazon, and Meta. The ten teams advancing to the finals are: · Boomerang, a portable, AI-assisted resistance training system for aging individuals with real-time data tracking and resistance feedback for personalized fitness plans and improved quality of life. · CathConnect, a system for preventing traumatic urinary catheter extractions by allowing the tube to disconnect when pulled. · DayFM, a system that provides a better experience for blind/visually impaired people when using public restrooms. · EasyE Water Monitoring, an innovative use of sensors for water monitoring to give fish farmers better tools to keep their fish healthy. · G.LED, a hardware project that aims to make LED bulbs more sustainable by replacing only the electronic components when the light fails. · HarvestAI, which aims to make agriculture more sustainable and environmentally friendly through different AI models with specific climate and socio-economic value predictions to inform farmers’ research and business interests. · Heart Savers, a lower-cost wireless ECG to detect cardiac abnormalities. · OneCourt, a system that uses haptics to make live sports accessible to blind and low-vision fans. · Qresponse, an emergency response platform that aims to reduce the waiting time for emergency services in low-income countries and assists emergency providers in prehospital treatment. · ScentCare, a device and companion app that provides a standardized and consolidated screening and treatment method for olfactory dysfunction (the loss of smell.) ...
